Dominican Republic: Food and Clothes
Feeding Program
Stories: Breath of Life
Local Missionaries Bob and Jana and their staff at Crossroads Retreat Center have organized a simple and effective way to get food to those who need it. The need is great and they are only able to visit one village at a time.
Children come and fill the church in their community. Then, after a teaching time and lots of LOUD praise music, the children file past team members who provide a cup of milk, a hard-boiled egg and some bread. This represents the most substantial meal many of the children have during the day. The most exciting thing about this small touch of compassion is that it is easily duplicated. All it takes is more workers on the field and more children could be fed.
Some ask about development and training so the children won’t grow up with dependency. The answer is development PLUS provision. If a man starves while being taught to fish, then the training is in vain. Schools and health care training are a part of our local partner’s program, and Sharing Teams encourage these aspects of development as well.
